Swimming Pool Removal in Fort Wayne
Collier's removes in-ground and above-ground swimming pools across Fort Wayne and northeast Indiana. We bring our own excavator, break the pool out, haul off the concrete and the liner, backfill the hole and leave the yard graded.
A pool you have stopped swimming in is not free to keep. It still takes chemicals, a cover, a pump and your time, and an unused pool is the kind of thing a buyer's inspector writes up. Taking it out turns that part of the yard back into ground you can actually use.
There are two ways to do it and we will walk you through both on site. A partial removal breaks the walls and floor up, drops the material into the hole and backfills over the top. It is faster and cheaper and it is what most homeowners pick. A full removal pulls the entire shell out of the ground and hauls it away. It costs more and takes longer, but it leaves the cleanest ground to build on later, and it is the version that tends to come up if you are selling.
The concrete decking around a pool is usually heavier than the pool itself, and it is the part people forget to ask about. We break it out with the excavator and haul it off with everything else. Fencing, pumps, filters, heaters and the old liner go at the same time.
Once the hole is filled we compact it and grade it so water runs away from the house instead of toward it. Some settling over the first couple of years is normal on any backfilled pool, and we would rather tell you that up front than have you find out about it later.
Above-ground pools are a much smaller job, usually a single day. We drain it, cut the walls down, pull the deck if there is one, and load the whole thing out.
- •In-ground and above-ground pools
- •Partial fill-in or full removal, decided at the walk-through
- •Concrete decking, fencing and pool equipment taken out too
- •Hole backfilled, compacted and graded before we leave
- •We run our own excavator, so equipment rental is not a separate line

WHAT AFFECTS THE PRICE
Every job is different, so we price off a walk-through rather than a number over the phone. These are the things that actually move it.
Partial fill-in or full removal
A full removal means the entire shell leaves the property instead of being buried. That is more machine time and a lot more material going to the dump.
Size and how it was built
A vinyl-liner pool comes apart far faster than poured concrete or gunite. Depth matters too, because it sets how much fill the hole needs.
How much concrete surrounds it
A narrow apron is a different job than a full patio wrapping the whole pool. The decking is often the heaviest material on the site.
Getting a machine into the backyard
A gate we can fit an excavator through keeps the job short. Tight side yards, or fencing that has to come down and go back, add time.
Fill material
A backfilled pool takes a lot of dirt and stone. Whether we can use material already on site or have to truck it in moves the number.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
No. Most homeowners go with a partial removal, where the shell is broken up, buried in place and backfilled over. A full removal is available when you want the ground completely clear, and we will explain the difference on site so you can pick.
Yes. The patio or apron around the pool comes out with it, along with the fencing, pump, filter, heater and liner. It all leaves on the same job.
Some settling is normal on any backfilled pool over the first year or two. We compact the fill in layers to keep it to a minimum and grade the surface so it drains away from the house. Anyone who promises you zero settling is guessing.
Usually yes. We need a gate or an opening we can bring a machine through. If the only way in is too tight, we will tell you at the walk-through what would have to come down temporarily and put it back when we are finished.
Yes, and those are a much simpler job. Most above-ground pools are drained, cut down, loaded and hauled off in a single day, deck included.
We come out and look at it. Pool removal depends too much on construction, decking and access to quote honestly over the phone. The walk-through and the estimate are both free.

Quick and easy cleanup. I had some heavy furniture taken down from a third story apartment building. I was given fair and accurate pricing and timing versus other companies in the local area. The removal was effortless, I will be using again.
